“Polylactide (PLA)-recycled wood fiber (RWF) composites with a small amount of silane were compounded using a kinetic-mixer and molded using an injection molding machine. The molded PLA-RWF composites were characterized Ilomastat concentration using gel permeation chromatography, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimeter, tensile testing machine, and a dynamic mechanical analyzer. As observed in the stress-strain plots, the amount of necking before fracture decreased with an increasing RWF content. Similarly, the strain-at-break also decreased with the RWF content. The tensile strength remained the same irrespective of the RWF content. Both the tensile

modulus and the storage modulus of the PLA-RWF composites increased with the RWF content. The degree of crystallinity of the PLA increased with the addition of RWF. No reduction in the number-average

molecular weight (M,,) was observed for pure PLA and PLA-10%RWF-0.5%Silane composites after injection molding; however, substantial reduction in M, was found in PLA-20%RWF-0.5%Silane composites. Finally, a theoretical model based on Halpin-Tsai empirical relations is presented to compare the theoretical results with that of the experimental results. (C) 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “Typical solvent extraction of succinic acid MS-275 manufacturer from a chitosan-succinic acid powder mixture gave unsatisfactory yield (10.0%) due to the presence of intramolecular crosslinks between the chitosan amine groups and succinic acid carboxylic groups. An improved extraction method, which included hydrolysis of cross-links by KOH to liberate succinic acid from the matrix, afforded satisfactory yield (95.2 +/- 4.0%). Quantitative analysis of succinic acid in chitosan-succinic acid mixture was performed using GCMS and the optimized analysis

method showed good validation in terms of specificity, linearity, accuracy (recovery rate), precision (inter-day and intra-day precision), Linsitinib limit of quantification (LOQ), and limit of detection (LOD).”
“A method of creation of hot dense plasma is proposed. It is based on cumulation of a shockwave, which originates on a hemispherical surface of insulator of plasma gun. The results of first experiments are presented. The shock wave is driven by fast electrical discharge (dI/dt>10(12) A/s). The inductive storage with semiconductor opening switch is used as a current driver. Time resolved pin-hole images and vacuum ultraviolet (vuv) spectra are studied. Shockwaves from hemispherical insulator with 4 mm radius create plasma with a form of column about 1 mm diameter and 3-4 mm length. vuv spectra contain the lines of Ar ions that corresponds to the electron temperature about 20 eV. Possible practical application is discussed.”
