Our investigation into copper- and zinc-bound oxytocin and related analogs employs far-UV circular dichroism as a primary method of characterization. Oxytocin and all analogs examined demonstrate a unique capacity for copper(II) and zinc(II) binding. Moreover, our research examines how these metal-complexed forms alter the downstream MAPK activation cascades after receptor binding. Relative to oxytocin alone, receptor-bound oxytocin complexed with Cu(II) and Zn(II) exhibited a decreased activation of the MAPK pathway. Interestingly, linear oxytocin's Zn(ii) bound forms exhibited a facilitation of MAPK signaling. Interactive live workshops focused on dementia care will be developed, delivered, and evaluated for licensed North Dakota pharmacists. This prospective interventional study will assess the impact of free, interactive, five-hour workshops, providing pharmacists with advanced training in Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, and frequent reversible causes of cognitive impairment. Three iterations of the workshop were held at two distinct North Dakota sites: Fargo and Bismarck. To gather data on demographics, attendance motivations, perceived dementia care skills, and workshop satisfaction, online pre- and post-workshop questionnaires were employed. A 16-item instrument (with one point per item) was created to evaluate dementia-related care competency (knowledge, comprehension, application, and analysis) before and after the workshop. Stata 101 was employed to calculate descriptive statistics and conduct paired t-tests. Sixty-nine pharmacists underwent training and successfully completed the competency test assessments, while 957% of ND pharmacists completed pre- and post-workshop questionnaires.
