Analyses of the geographic distribution of Pf38 haplotypes showed that four haplotypes accounted for the majority of sequences found world-wide, but there were many more haplotypes unique to the African than the PNG populations.
Conclusion: This study confirmed
see more previous findings that Pf38 is a polymorphic gene under balancing selection. However, analysing polymorphism and selection across the length of the gene painted a considerably different picture. Domain I is highly polymorphic and the target of significant balancing selection. In contrast, domain II is relatively conserved and does not show evidence of immune selective pressure. The findings have implications for future population genetic studies on vaccine candidates, showing that the biological context must also be considered as a framework for analysis.”
“Two types of novel benzoxazine-based phenolic resins from phenol-furfural (PFB) and cardanol-furfural (CFB) resins had been synthesized and the highly thermally stable polybenzoxazines were obtained by the thermal cure of the corresponding benzoxazine-based phenolic resins. The chemical structure of benzoxazine-based phenolic resins
derived from renewable resources was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), (1)H NMR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). FTIR spectrum and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that the monomers were thermally initiated and polymerized via ring-opening polymerization. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the incorporation of furan groups could enhance Metabolism inhibitor the char yield and thermal stability. However, the long alkyl side chain from cardanol could increase the toughness, while decreasing the char yield and thermal stability. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “We describe a new technique for nuclear disassembly of a hard nucleus in cataract surgery. The drill-and-crack technique, which combines phaco chop
and the prechopper, makes a deep hole (drill) in the central nucleus with the phaco tip and divides the nucleus (crack) with the prechopper inside the hole.”
“Introduction: Octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (Oct4) is a master regulator of early mammalian development. Its expression begins from the oocyte stage, becomes restricted to the GDC0449 inner cell mass of the blastocyst and eventually remains only in primordial germ cells. Unearthing the interactions of Oct4 would provide insight into how this transcription factor is central to cell fate and stem cell pluripotency.
Methods: In the present study, affinity-tagged endogenous Oct4 cell lines were established via homologous recombination gene targeting in embryonic stem (ES) cells to express tagged Oct4. This allows tagged Oct4 to be expressed without altering the total Oct4 levels from their physiological levels.
Results: Modified ES cells remained pluripotent.
